In another effort to try and support our community through sewing, we’re meeting to make baby blankets to donate to CAPSA. If your not familiar with CAPSA, it is a community center, where they provide a safe and confidential shelter, advocacy, and support for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

Some sad stats: CAPSA serves about 450 people annually. Between July 2006 and June 2007 CAPSA sheltered 371 individuals (including 6 men, 138 women and 227 children), took 5,500 calls on the crisis line, assisted over 3,100 clients out of shelter, responded to 543 mobile crisis team calls, and received over 400 rape-related calls on the hotline.
CAPSA receives minimal government funding and rely on donations to take care of the people that they take in. Many donations are assembled into kits and are offered to CAPSA clients free of charge. Clients are given kits according to their needs, some examples of kits are; School Supplies, Baby Supplies, Children’s Support, New Home Kit, Office &, Support kits, Hygiene Kit, and Pampering Kit. Our baby blankets will more than likely be paired with a baby supplies kit. You can read more about what they need here.
We did find out that they are in more need of twin size blankets than baby sizes, but we’re going to go ahead with this project, we figured they’d get used. We have plans of tying twin size blankets at a later time.
Saturday March 20th, our little service sewing group is meeting at 10:00 a.m. to sew. This is a great chance to sew, be social and serve others.
You can bring your own material to sew into a blanket if you want, but we can also use just sewers too! So just come! If you want to come but are unable to come at that time, feel free to make your blanket at home and we’ll make sure it gets donated.
If your worried about bringing your kids, don’t. I bring my baby. I usually bring some toys and have a spot set up for him to play. But you for sure get more done without them too. We usually meet at an LDS church house (1550 N 400 E, Logan), because my sisters husband does all the scheduling for that building and it’s just easy. We get a big room right by the kitchen so we can have snacks!
- What you’ll need:
- You’ll need one yard (or a yard and a quarter, as I like to do it) of fabric cut with a coordinating fabric of the same length.
- Other things you might need, but aren’t necessary:
- thread (you might want to bring a special color that goes with the blanket, but what we have on our machines will probably work).
- bias tape (this just gives a nice finish to a blanket but is a bit more money. I use double fold bias tape).
- sewing machine (you can bring your own if you want, but we usually have three or four set up already).
Not sure how to make one? Don’t worry we’ll show you! It’s super easy and there are lots of ways to make and finish one! You can also watch this goofy video I made to see how easy it is. Hope to see you there!

I am hoping to make it. Scott just started 2 new classes so I am not sure what his homework will be like this weekend. He is trying to get it done during the week but it looks like he has a lot.
If I can't make it i will try and make a few from home and get them to you.
