Ryan's amazing. He listens to everything I say! For Valentines he suprized me with tickets to see the Preservation Hall Jazz Band on the 21st of this month. We both love Jazz music so much - he was in the jazz band in high school, and I used to sing Jazz here and there. It's secretly my dream to just be a jazz singer.
This gift is extra special because ever since I took The History of Jazz class my freshman year I've been slightly obsessed with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and all of the history - all the great jazz players have performed there! Oh, it gets better though...Preservation Hall is located in the French Quarter in New Orleans - which is where we went on our honeymoon. This picture is actually one we took on our honeymoon. And maybe I was freaking out just being right outside the doors of the real Preservation Hall.
So Ryan gets the prize! He definitely knocked me off my feet once again. =) The following is an exerpt from the official Preservation Hall website - http://www.preservationhall.com - you can even take a tour of the hall. You should check it out.
Preservation Hall is located in the French Quarter, just three blocks from the Mississippi River. The Hall has served many functions over the years. Originally built as a private residence in 1750, the hall has evolved into a tavern, inn, photo studio and an art gallery. The inside of the hall contains portraits of the musicians who first filled it with the beautiful sounds of New Orleans Jazz.
Preservation Hall opened its doors in 1961. The hall was created as a sanctuary, to protect and honor New Orleans Jazz which had lost much of its popularity to modern jazz and rock n roll. Allan and Sandra Jaffe, the hall’s founders, wanted a place where New Orleans musicians could play New Orleans Jazz, a style, they believed, should not disappear.
Today, over 40 years later, the hall is still going strong. On any given night, the hall is filled to capacity with people eager to hear New Orleans jazz played by veteran musicians in their 70’s and 80’s and younger musicians learning and embracing music that is both sweet and very beautiful.

Ryan is just sneaky. I don't trust him.
wait... you're going to new orleans? where are they performing? maybe I missed it...
that's crazy, and so fun and exciting, who's lucky (here I would point at you if you were here), who's jealous (here I would point at myself).
You all are funny - no we're not going to New Orleans. They tour all over the country and they'll be playing at the Ellen Eccles Theater that night.
