30 Weeks - Cabbage Baby

Baby-Schaefy's about 15.7 inches long now, and she weighs almost 3 pounds (like a head of cabbage). Her eyesight continues to develop, though it's not very keen; even after she's born, she'll keep her eyes closed for a good part of the day. When she does open them, she'll respond to changes in light but will have 20/400 vision - which means she can only make out objects a few inches from her face. In preperation for respiration after birth, she is now mimicing breathing movements by repeatedly moving the diaphragm. She can even get the hiccups. The lanugo Baby-Schaefy developed weeks ago is starting to drop off; at the same time, her eyebrows and lashes are developed and the hair on her head is thickening. Her head and body are now proportionate and she is busy growing in those teensy toenails.

Sometimes, new babies can see pretty well. I bet yours will.

Today, I am working on names to send along to you for consideration.

Love,
Mom.
